Engagement path 02

Automation Sprint

When the workflow and automation problem are already clear

A bounded implementation for one sufficiently understood workflow, with the automation, validation, exception handling, and handoff that scope requires.

The operating problem it addresses

One workflow is already understood well enough to automate: how it runs today, who can make which decisions, how exceptions are handled, and where it fails are all clear, and the automation problem within it is defined.

What BJV does

  • Build the automation the workflow needs, and only that.
  • Test the actual workflow: who can make which decisions, how exceptions and recovery work, and the handoff, rather than treating implementation as proof.

What you leave with

A targeted working automation and a record of how it is operated and checked.

The boundary

A Sprint is not the default response to an unclear system and does not stand in for broader operating design.

If it is still unclear how the workflow runs today, who can make which decisions, how exceptions are handled, or where it fails, choosing an automation first is premature. That is the work a Systems Blueprint is meant to clarify.

Who takes part

  • An accountable decision-maker who can own tradeoffs, approvals, and the eventual handoff.
  • The people who run the workflow and handle its exceptions.

What helps to start

  • What the workflow is meant to accomplish.
  • Where it currently slows, breaks, or becomes difficult to control.
  • The people, tools, decisions, data, and exceptions it involves.

Possible next decisions

The automation is operated and checked against its record. Any further change is decided from evidence of how it runs in use. No further engagement is a complete outcome.

Evidence before automation. Each path stands on its own boundary.

In the Systems Inquiry, choose “Automation Sprint” as the possible starting point, or “Not sure” if the boundary is still unclear.
